Liposuction/BBL Q&A

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat from the body through suction. Unlike bariatric surgery, liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. Instead, the device removes excess fat from areas of the body that often don’t respond to routine diet and exercise, such as the:

  • Abdomen
  • Upper back
  • Bra rolls
  • Hips
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Arms
  • Buttocks
  • Calves
  • Ankles
  • Under the chin (double chin)
  • Neck
  • Jowls

At The Center for Plastic Surgery and Med Spa, Dr. Bouzaglou has performed thousands of fat loss procedures using power-assisted liposuction (PAL).

How is power-assisted liposuction different from traditional liposuction?

Traditional liposuction uses a long probe or cannula to break up and remove excess fat. Power-assisted liposuction works in a similar way, but with some key differences that make it a more efficient treatment.

During PAL, Dr. Bouzaglou makes an incision in your treatment area and inserts the cannula. Next, the device uses vibrating back-and-forth motions to break up fat tissue into small pieces that the cannula can easily remove.

Because PAL is a quicker treatment than traditional liposuction, it offers many advantages over traditional liposuction, including:

  • Shorter recovery period
  • Less bruising
  • Reduced tissue trauma
  • Faster healing
  • Minimal swelling
  • Less pain

PAL also delivers a higher level of precision than traditional liposuction, so your results may better match your expectations.

What can I expect from liposuction?

Dr. Bouzaglou performs power-assisted liposuction using local anesthesia and oral sedation. You can expect about one week of complete downtime after the procedure. After this initial period, you can start participating in non-strenuous activities.

Although your initial results are immediately visible, it can take several weeks for swelling and inflammation from the procedure to subside. Full results are typically apparent within six months of treatment.

Are liposuction results permanent?

Once power-assisted liposuction removes your fat cells, they cannot return. However, new fat can accumulate. The best way to maintain your results after liposuction is to practice healthy habits. A low-fat, low-sugar diet and regular exercise can help prevent new fat accumulation, so you can continue to enjoy your new physique.

Do Not Throw away your fat!

We are excited that fat transfer to the buttocks aka brazillian butt lift and fat transfer to the breasts has been a great addition for our body contouring patients. Enhance the natural shape of your buttocks and/or your breasts with your own tissue safely with our system of collecting the fat into a sterile cannister and reinjecting it to either the breasts or the buttocks at the time of your liposuction procedure. See our before and after gallery for some beautiful results...all performed under local anesthesia with oral sedation safely at the same time as the liposuction.

What is the Brazilian butt lift?

The Brazilian butt lift, or BBL, is a surgical procedure that involves fat transfer and augmentation. During the procedure, Dr. Bouzaglou removes fat from one area of the body — abdomen, hips, thighs — and injects it into the buttocks. The resulting look is voluminous and lifted, making the BBL the perfect procedure looking to contour their overall shape.

Dr. Bouzaglou performs the Brazilian using local anesthesia subcutaneously (under the skin) and oral sedation. Doing so greatly reduces the potential side effects of general anesthesia.

Why should I consider the Brazilian butt lift?

Though diet and exercise have a substantial effect on the shape and size of your buttocks, so do many other factors. Your natural musculoskeletal structure, metabolism, and body’s fat storage all impact the way your buttocks develop.

If your buttocks appear flat, saggy, or misshapen compared to the rest of your body, you may be a good candidate for the Brazilian butt lift. The procedure also removes unwanted fat from other areas of the body for men or women who hope to slim their overall shape.

Who is a good candidate for the Brazilian butt lift?

You may be a good candidate for the Brazilian butt lift if you:

  • Have a flat buttocks
  • Are unhappy with the shape or size of your buttocks
  • Are in good overall health
  • Have enough fat in other areas of your body to harvest
  • Have good skin tone
  • Less pain

The Brazilian butt lift does require a recovery period in which you can’t sit on your buttocks, so it’s important to take that into consideration. This treatment doesn’t remove excess skin. If you struggle with severe skin laxity, a traditional lifting procedure may be more appropriate.

What happens during a Brazilian butt lift?

Before your procedure, Dr. Bouzaglou administers your local anesthetic and oral sedation. Next, she removes fat from your abdomen, back, hips, or thighs. She then injects it into the buttocks to augment its size and shape.

You must avoid sitting on your buttocks for at least two weeks after the procedure to protect your results. When sleeping, it’s important to lie on your stomach or side
