Laser Procedures Q&A

What are laser procedures?

Laser procedures refers to cosmetic treatments and procedures that involve the use of advanced and effective laser technology.

Different types of lasers have a wide range of purposes in medicine. In aesthetics, lasers can be used for hair removal, skin tightening, and other issues.

Cosmetic laser procedures are typically convenient in-office lunchtime procedures. During your personal consultation at The Center for Plastic Surgery and Med Spa, Dr. Bouzaglou can help you decide which laser treatment is right for you and explain your available options in detail.

How do lasers work for hair removal?

Laser hair removal technology works by using concentrated light beams to damage hair follicles. Then the hair falls out and won’t grow back again.

You wear protective eye goggles, which is especially critical if the laser is removing hair on your face. Dr. Bouzaglou usually applies a numbing or cooling gel first, and then she slowly glides the laser device over your skin in the target area to deliver the laser energy.

Multiple sessions are typically needed because you have multiple stages of hair growth. Laser hair removal can be performed on different body parts, such as your face, neck, shoulders, toes, arms and underarms, legs, stomach, back, chest, and bikini area.

How do laser procedures work for skin tightening?

Laser technology works especially well for reducing wrinkles and tightening your skin. The laser treats the outer layers of your skin, prompting your body to produce new skin cells as well as collagen and elastin.

The laser works on different body areas and can address specific cosmetic concerns, such as hyperpigmentation, sunspots, rosacea, freckles, and spider veins.

Some laser procedures, such as skin resurfacing, may be performed with a local anesthetic, with or without sedation, depending on your individual needs and preferences.

Which laser procedures are available?

Dr. Bouzaglou offers several different laser treatments at The Center for Plastic surgery and Med Spa, including:

Picosure® laser

Picosure is a picosecond device that can remove unwanted pigmentation and discoloration. These skin concerns include unwanted tattoos, acne scars, and brown spots. The device is also effective at treating fine lines and wrinkles.

MaxG® laser

The MaxG is an intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment that uses multiple wavelengths of light to treat a wide range of skin concerns, including vascular lesions. Redness, rosacea, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation are common concerns the MaxG laser treats.

Potenza™ microneedling

Potenza is a radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device that simultaneously creates micro-wounds in the skin and releases RF energy to stimulate collagen production. Potenza can help tighten sagging skin, eliminate acne scars, and reduce damage on the skin’s surface.

Cool Peel Laser

CoolPeel is a brand new way to safely and comfortably deliver the benefits of a traditional CO2 resurfacing treatment. By targeting just the superficial layer of skin tissue, damaged skin is removed revealing younger and healthier-looking skin. CO2 lasers are the gold standard in treating wrinkles, age spots, acne scars and other blemishes as well as tighten skin and balance tone. Damaged skin tissue is removed, or ablated, stimulating new collagen production as heat energy is delivered to tighten the skin. Depending on the depth of treatment, CO2 treatments can be accompanied by considerable downtime while damaged skin heals.
