Meet Dr. Bouzaglou
Lexington Plastic Surgeon - Dr. Sandra Bouzaglou - Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery
Sandra Bouzaglou, MD, FACS
Although born in Cleveland, Ohio, I grew up in southern California where at an early age I decided to pursue a path in medicine. After graduating from UCLA with a Bachelors Degree in Biology, I went onto medical school and graduated from The Chicago Medical School in 1983. During my surgical rotations at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, I realized I wanted to be a surgeon. Having learned how to needlepoint as a child, working with my hands came most natural to me.
After medical school, I joined Loyola University in Chicago in General Surgery. In my short 2 years at Loyola, I was fortunate to perform hundreds of procedures in all aspects of surgery. It was during my second year at Loyola, when on a Plastic Surgery rotation, I became fascinated by plastic surgery. The ability to make someone feel good about themselves through Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was most appealing to me.
In 1985, I joined the residency training program in General Surgery at the University of Iowa. Because of my extensive surgical experience at Loyola, I was given the opportunity to perform microsurgical research in the lab at the University of Iowa, where I performed heart transplants in mice under a microscope. This gave me tremendous experience in the field of microsurgery, which also proved extremely helpful in Plastic Surgery.
I completed my General Surgery training in 1988, at the University of Iowa and then chose to come to the University of Kentucky to pursue my dream of becoming a Plastic Surgeon. As the first female plastic surgery resident at the University of Kentucky, I trained and learned from many leaders in the plastic surgery field.
In 1998, I opened Kentucky's first accredited outpatient center of its kind, The SurgiCenter which is dedicated to providing a safe and private environment for my patients. We have successfully performed over 1900 cases under general anesthesia in our SurgiCenter with the help of highly trained board certified anesthesiologists, registered nurses and surgical technicians.
The Center for Plastic Surgery also offers a wide range of non-surgical services, from skin care and injectables, to laser treatments for hair, tattoo and pigment removal as well as Coolsculpting to help get rid of unwanted fat. We continually strive to provide the latest proven, safest techniques and procedures that the field of Plastic Surgery has to offer.
I am board certified in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery and I have been recognized by my peers as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. I am a member of the following organizations:
For the past 20+ years, my husband and I have enjoyed living in the Bluegrass. Dr. Archer is a professor at the University of Kentucky where he is an Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon and specializes in the treatment of sinus disease and care of the professional voice. We have raised 4 children who enjoy swimming competitively, as well as soccer, gymnastics, and travel.
