Lexington Plastic Surgeon - Dr. Sandra Bouzaglou - Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery

Dr. Sandra Bouzaglou

Sandra Bouzaglou, MD, FACS

Although born in Cleveland, Ohio, I grew up in southern California where at an early age I decided to pursue a path in medicine.  After graduating from UCLA with a Bachelors Degree in Biology, I  went onto medical school and graduated from The Chicago Medical School in 1983.  During my surgical rotations at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, I realized I wanted to be a surgeon.  Having learned how to needlepoint as a child, working with my hands came most natural to me.

After medical school, I joined Loyola University in Chicago in General Surgery.  In my short 2 years at Loyola, I was fortunate to perform hundreds of procedures in all aspects of surgery.  It was during my second year at Loyola, when on a Plastic Surgery rotation, I became fascinated by plastic surgery.   The ability to make someone feel good about themselves through Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was most appealing to me.

In 1985, my husband, Dr. Sanford Archer, was offered a position as a resident in the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Department at the University of Iowa.  Because of my extensive surgical experience at Loyola, I transferred into the surgical research lab at the University of Iowa, where I was involved in transplant research with Dr. Robert Corry, performing microsurgical heart transplants in mice.  This gave me tremendous experience in the field of microsurgery, which also proved to be extremely helpful in Plastic Surgery.

I completed my General Surgery training in 1988, at the University of Iowa and then chose to come to the University of Kentucky to pursue my dream of becoming a Plastic Surgeon.  As the first female plastic surgery resident at the University of Kentucky, I trained and learned from many leaders in the plastic surgery field.

I am board certified in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery and I am also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.   I originally started my practice in Plastic Surgery in Frankfort, KY and over the years, as my family grew, I moved my practice to Lexington, Kentucky.

Associations & Memberships

In 1998, I opened Kentucky’s first accredited outpatient surgery center of its kind, The SurgiCenter, which is dedicated to providing a safe and private environment for my patients.  We have successfully performed  over 1600 cases under general anesthesia in our SurgiCenter with the help of highly trained, board certified anesthesiologists, surgical technicians and nurses.

For the past 20+ years, my husband and I have enjoyed living in the Bluegrass.  Dr. Archer is a professor at the University of Kentucky where he is an Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon and specializes in the treatment of sinus disease and care of the professional voice.  We have raised 4 children who enjoy swimming competitively, as well as soccer, skiing, and travel.
